The Chief of the General Staff in the Gaza Strip: “Iran has taken a heavy blow. There is a possibility that the strike on Iran will advance our objectives in Gaza."
The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, conducted a field tour and situational assessment today (Friday) in the Gaza Strip together with the Commander of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor, the Commander of the Israeli Ground Forces, MG Nadav Lotan, the Commander of 99th Division, BG Yoav Brunner, Head of the Operations Division, BG Israel Shomer, the Commander of 646th Brigade, the Commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade, and other commanders.
The Chief of the General Staff spoke with the reserve soldiers of the 99th Division and expressed his appreciation for their efforts.
From the words of the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir:
“This week, the IDF completed Operation ‘Rising Lion’ to remove an existential threat to the State of Israel. We achieved all the objectives of the operation and dealt a blow to Iran’s nuclear program — but the war is not over.
Throughout the operation, my eyes were also on your activity in the Gaza Strip. The infantry, armor, engineering, and other ground forces operating courageously in complex combat in Gaza were a significant part of the IDF’s ability to act with force in Iran.
The most moving and symbolic moment this week occurred as we watched, from the command bunker, the impressive American strike in Iran — at the same time an IDF and ISA operation to rescue three fallen hostages was underway.”
Iran has taken a heavy blow; the damage it sustained will impact the entire axis, including Hamas, whose primary patron has been weakened. There is a possibility that the strike on Iran will advance our objectives in Gaza.
The operation in Gaza is the main arena. In the near future, we will reach the lines we defined for the current phase as part of operation ‘Gideon’s Chariots.’ From there, operational options will be developed and presented to the political echelon. We will continue to act with determination in order to achieve the two main objectives of the war — the return of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas.
This week, we lost seven combat engineering soldiers from the 188th Brigade — some of our finest — who fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. This is a very painful incident, and we are standing with the families in their time of grief. We will review the incident and learn from it.
To you, the reservists, I express great appreciation for your understanding of the gravity of the moment and your showing up every time you are called to serve. Yesterday, we held a situational assessment to examine possible relief measures for reservists. We will work to make the most efficient use of our forces and ensure that you are called up only when there is a clear operational need.
