IDF Delivers Supplies for Ramadan

The global outbreak of COVID-19 has left people around the world in a heightened state of vulnerability. Due to health guidelines instructing people to stay home as much as possible, Israel’s Muslim population has faced difficulty preparing for the upcoming month of Ramadan. The IDF is taking part in a nationwide effort to assist them as needed.

Typically before Ramadan, shops are crowded with families buying food to prepare for the holiday. This year, IDF troops have packaged over 185,000 boxes of meals and other necessities and distributed them out to Muslim communities across Israel. This effort will help families reduce potential exposure to COVID-19 and prevent the spread of the virus.

In the Negev, the Home Front Command, in cooperation with the Bedouin Administration, distributed over 3,000 boxes of essentials to Bedouin communities. The boxes contain hygiene kits and pamphlets in Arabic about COVID-19.

To test civilians for COVID-19, the IDF and Israel's Emergency Medical Services have opened four mobile drive-thru facilities in central locations for Arab communities: Rahat, eastern Jerusalem, Jisr az-Zarqa, and Fureidis.

In addition, the IDF Home Front Command has launched a public awareness campaign in Arabic to provide instructions to the Israeli Muslim public on how to safely celebrate Ramadan while adhering to medical guidelines. A door-to-door campaign was conducted with the assistance of local authorities and 80 Arabic-speaking reservists to answer any questions of Muslim citizens and inform them of any changes to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines.

During this campaign, the IDF has distributed a total of 270,000 brochures. Along with PSAs via radio, and 20 online videos with messages specific to Ramadan, the IDF continues to take the necessary steps to provide assistance wherever it can to Israel’s emergency services and civilian population. Together, we will defeat COVID-19.
