There’s a feeling of hope and optimism on base because we trust the IDF and know our capabilities but we’re also stressed and worried for our friends from home who are fighting inside Gaza.
On Saturday (Oct. 7), we went into a phase of continuous readiness–we fought hard. We evacuated wounded civilians and personnel, gave initial treatment and later on drove to Soroka Hospital with the bodies of those who were killed. The things we saw are impossible to forget.
The song “Ad Mahar” (“Until Tomorrow”) by Eviatar Banai comes with me wherever I go. It reminds me of home, my parents and better times throughout my life.
Our daily activities (routine security missions) consist of tasks including identifying the faces of terrorists and assailants and marking them as threats. What I miss most is Fridays at home, my mom and grandma’s cooking and especially my mom’s bolognese pasta.
What gives me strength during the war is my friends from my team–sitting together at the end of the day, talking about things that aren’t always related to everything that’s going on around us.
