Press Briefing by IDF Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, April 12, 2024
Shabbat Shalom. A short while ago, sirens were heard in the northern area as a result of launches from Lebanese territory. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by the soldiers of the Air Defense Array, some fell in open areas, and there were no casualties in this incident. Over the past day, the IDF has conducted a situational assessment and approved plans for a variety of scenarios following reports and statements about an Iranian attack. The branch and directorate commanders presented the Chief of the General Staff with their preparedness for defensive and offensive operations and the adaptation of operational responses.
It should be said - we have been at war for the past half year and have dealt with all types and elements of the existing threat. Our defenses are prepared and know how to face each threat individually. Alongside the defenses, we are also prepared to go on the offensive - we are prepared to strike with a variety of capabilities and will know how to act to protect the citizens of the State of Israel. A short while ago, the Chief of the General Staff's situational assessment with the Commander of the U.S. Central Command concluded. We are conducting a joint situational assessment to ensure the close coordination between us. I emphasize that at this stage there is no change in the Home Front Command's instructions. If there is a change, we will update you immediately. It is right to say that the coming days require us to be alert and prepared. I know this situation raises many questions, and therefore, we will keep updating the public regularly. All instructions for conduct during an alert and emergency situation are detailed on the Home Front Command website. We have one of the best defensive capabilities in the world, but it is not hermetic. Follow the instructions of the Home Front Command. We will update on any change immediately. Iran's conduct throughout the war escalates the situation in the Middle East and undermines stability and security. We will know how to act wherever required.
In recent hours, security forces have been operating in Judea and Samaria to locate Binyamin Achimair, 14 years old, who has been missing since this morning. We are treating this event seriously, and many forces are deployed in the area and participating in the search efforts, including the Israel Security Agency and the Israel Police. We will update on developments.
Thank you very much. Shabbat Shalom.
