Come Join a Three-Day Exercise With the Israeli Navy

After a few hours of sailing deep into the sea, with no land in sight, the elite units of the Israeli Navy began a special training exercise. They practiced firing missiles toward naval targets, thwarting UAV attacks and protecting the naval arena of the State of Israel. The goal of the exercise: to make sure these units are ready for any future challenges. Here is what we observed:

It was a special week for the soldiers and officers of the Israeli Navy—with little warning, they left their base in Haifa and set out to sea. There, Flotilla 3, Flotilla 7, the Naval Commando Unit and even the 193rd Air Force Squadron practiced together, simulating an operational situation.

Have you ever been in an Israeli Navy Corvette?
The Israeli Navy is equipped with the most advanced corvettes in the world. Using them, the Israeli Navy monitors and protects the naval arena of the State of Israel. During this exercise, we joined the INS Chetz “Nirit,” a Sa’ar 4.5 Class Missile Boat.

How does it work?
The INS Chetz crew is divided into four departments, each with its own responsibilities:

Weapons Department - This department is responsible for the ship’s strike capabilities. Throughout the day, they are on high alert, ready to act in any operational situation. Part of their job is to handle all the rockets belonging to the ship and launch them if necessary. Sailors are a part of this department as well.

Electronics Department - Soldiers in this department are in charge of the corvette's defense systems. Soldiers in this department operate anti-missile systems, military computers, and Electronic Warfare systems.

Machine Department - Every soldier in this department knows how to solve any mechanical or electrical problem the ship may face. They know every screw of the ship and are prepared to fix any malfunction, even during tense times.

Discovery, Navigation, and Communication Department - These soldiers construct an updated status of the current naval situation at any time. They are responsible for all the ship’s communications with other ships and know how to coordinate with military assets deployed on Israeli shores.

These four departments work together to ensure optimal protection, advanced strike capabilities, efficient maintenance, and communications with other ships during routine and emergency activities.

What is the secret of the Israeli Navy?

In a modestly sized ship, over 70 people live together for almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The crew cooks, eats, trains and lives together. Whether on a mission, routine patrol, or preparing for the next offshore operational event, the ship is their home and their base for everything they need.

It may be hard to believe, but this is the secret of the Israeli Navy: Good friends working together round-the-clock and forging a bond ultimately ensures the highest level of security for the shores of the State of Israel.
