Certificate of Appreciation for Exceptional Performance in Naval Campaigns Awarded to Members of the Israeli Navy

The Flotilla 13 naval commando unit and four of its fighters received special citations yesterday (Wednesday) from the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi. The Chief of the General Staff also gave commendation pins of appreciation to the flotilla of missile boats, the submarine flotilla, and classified forces in the Israeli Navy.

The special commendation was awarded to Flotilla 13 as a sign of appreciation for operational actions in which its fighters demonstrated courage, determination, creativity, composure and innovation. The citations were awarded to Israeli Navy units for leading complex and significant operations designed to preserve the maritime dominance of the State of Israel. These operations, carried out by the Israeli Navy, contributed to IDF activity in the campaign between wars.

Earlier this week, a ceremony was held to present certificates of appreciation on behalf of the Commander of the Israeli Navy, Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit, to the Flotillas, Naval Commands, select departments of the Navy, Air Force squadrons, select units in the Intelligence Directorate and other units in the security forces. The certificates of appreciation were also awarded for operational activities at sea which directly contributed to Israeli national security. In addition, personal certificates of appreciation were awarded to members of the Navy and key personnel in the security forces who participated in a variety of significant and groundbreaking operations, demonstrating determination and courage.

Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi:
“The Israeli Navy was a significant partner in Operation “Guardian of the Walls” in terms of defense and sophisticated multi-dimensional blows. Quite a few of the projects, methods and efforts outlined in the multi-year “Momentum” plan were reflected in the operation and proved to us that the direction we took was correct. The activities of the Navy expressed the fact that we will hit our enemy. We will look for them and find them, in any place and at any time. They express that there is no such thing as 'impossible', even what seems difficult or impossible - is possible. We not only seize opportunities, we also create opportunities. These opportunities are not those that come to you, you cannot pick them at will. The Navy and its units created these opportunities during operations. In order to create opportunities, you need professionalism, courage and flexibility. You need to initiate and respond, to work from scratch and implement plans on a very short schedule. And you did this in a way that is admirable."

Commander of the Israeli Navy, Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit:
"This ceremony marks a significant event in which we summarize a large variety of operations conducted in the northern and southern arenas, including operations against the naval commando unit in Gaza.
Every operation had a high level of complexity. We were able to accumulate assets that served us in each operation, both above and below sea-level. We must maintain the speed and exceptional flexibility of both our offensive and proportional responses.
The ongoing campaign is not over and we need to stay ready and alert. Our forces maintain an exceptional level of operational competence. I trust them completely. My appreciation today is not just for the forces of the Navy. I want to express appreciation to our partners in the operations. It is impossible to achieve truly significant achievements alone- we have found a true partnership in and out of the military."
