New Appointments within the IDF General Staff
The Minister of Defense, Mr. Moshe (Bogie) Ya’alon, has approved today, Friday, April 25, 2014, new appointments in the IDF General Staff. The appointments were determined by The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benjamin (Benny) Gantz.
Major General Aviv Kohavi will be appointed as new Commanding Officer of the Northern Command. Maj. Gen. Kohavi will replace Maj. Gen. Yair Golan who has held the position for the past two and a half years.

Brigadier General Hertzi Halevi will be appointed new Chief of IDF Intelligence Directorate.
Brig. Gen. Halevi, who currently serves as the Head of the Command and Staff College, will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will replace Maj. Gen. Aviv Kohavi who has held position for the past three and a half years.
Brigadier General Hagi Topolanski will be appointed as the new Head of the Personnel Directorate. Brig. Gen. Topolanski, who currently serves as the Chief of the Air Force Staff, will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will replace Maj. Gen. Orna Barbivai who has held the position for the past three years and is soon to retire.
Brigadier General Yossi Bachar will be appointed as the new Commander of The Northern Corps. Brig. Gen. Bachar, who currently serves as the Commander of the IDF Battalion Commanders & Company Commanders Training Course, will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will replace Maj. Gen. Gershon HaCohen, who has held the position for the past four years and is soon to retire.
