Operation Autumn Clouds

Operation Autumn Clouds (Hebrew: מבצע ענני סתיו, 'Mivtsa Ananey Stav') was part of a larger-scale operation launched in the summer of 2006 aimed at ending rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. It was a follow up to Operation Summer Rain, which was launched on June 28th, 2006 in order to recover Sergeant 1st Class Gilad Shalit, who was captured by the Hamas terrorist organization.

Operation Autumn Clouds

On November 1st, 2006, the IDF carried out a raid on the town of Beit Hanoun, which housed numerous rocket launching ramps. Fighting took place in the following days, until the IDF began to withdraw on November 7th, 2006, marking the end of Operation Autumn Clouds.

A ceasefire agreement was signed on November 26th, 2006. At the end of the operation, Sergeant 1st Class Gilad Shalit was not released, but rocket fire was significantly reduced.
